Three hundred turns after the amazing battle between Wingleader F'lar, Weyrwoman Lessa, and Lord Holder Jaxom of Ruatha Hold and rider of the very rare white dragon Ruth against the Thread, which took the Red Star from the Rukbat System and destroyed Thread, and after more than several thousand turns after the threat of the Dragonic disease that killed hundreds of dragons and firelizards, Firerock Weyr was established. After the Holders believed that the threat of Thread had gone, they began to turn on the Dragonriders of Pern, convinced that they were worthless. They established the Firerock Weyr in the Southern Continent to get away from the Holders that were threatening their dragons. A few holders and crafters that were still loyal to the dragonriders agreed to move with them to set up a large hold called Firerock Hold.
Three hundred turns after Firerock Weyr was established, the Dragonic disease once again began to spread, but this time it didn't kill any dragons. However, now, it has infected them. The dragon's flame is stronger, though Queens are still unable to flame. But besides that, many clutches have started to hatch strange colored dragonets. A new set of queen dragons was established, the 'Copper' dragons, however they still follow orders from the Golds. This has not only effected the dragons, but the firelizards as well. No one has been able to tell why the sickness has targeted the dragons once more, but they are glad it has not killed them.
Now, it is four hundred turns after the disease, and Firerock Weyr is gaining yet another problem. The Red Star, that F'lar, Lessa, and Jaxom had believed they had gotten rid of, has been spotted once more in the skies over Pern, and the whole planet is once more in peril. The Holders from the Northern Continent disagree with them, saying that the Red Star is gone forever. How can the Dragonriders protect Pern, if the Holders want nothing more than to kill them?
