Character Info:
Name: Selaina
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Rank: Gold Rider, Wingrider, Junior Weyrwoman
Appearance: A fairly pretty woman, even considered beautiful by some, Sel stands out somewhat among a crowd. The first thing most notice are her hazel eyes, shaped like narrow almonds and fringed by long black lashes. Next, you might notice her lips, which are an orchid pink, or her straight nose. Her face and her body are pale, and her face is heart-shaped, with a slightly angular jaw. Sel has inherited all her father's good looks.
Selaina has long brown hair with hints of gold in it; she wears it down. It frames her face in gentle waves, and balances out the general angles of her face. It falls past her shoulders and to about mid-back before stopping. Sel's hair is very fine in its texture, but not thin overall. She takes good care of it.
Sel stands about 5' 4", maybe a bit taller, and weighs 112 pounds. Her figure is slim, but still curvaceous in all the right places. She wears cool-colored tunics in colors such as greens, blues, and purples, and the occasional white or black. She isn't really into fancy dresses or jewelry, though for Gather days and important events she does wear fancy dresses. Her limbs are neither long nor short for her proportions; in fact her body is extremely well-proportioned.
Personality: A passionate, strong-willed, fiery young woman, Selaina is full of life, plain and simple. She has opinions about nearly everything that comes her way, and is not afraid to express them, not one bit. She can be quite a handful to deal with, and can be extremely stubborn. She has a temper, for sure, that can blow up at the slightest provocation. Dealing with her is like holding a grenade that is ticking down to detonation. And when she detonates, then you'd better run away.
Sel is a very willful girl, who doesn't see the need to obey authority. She can pursue her own rights with a vengeance when she has to. She's slightly vain, because many over the years have called her pretty, and even beautiful at times. The only authority she really will obey is recognized ranks/positions, and those who rank above her, like the Senior Weyrwoman or any of the elder Junior Weyrwomen.
Sel does however know how to conduct herself in public. She's learned excellent manners from her time in the Hold being taught how to be a lady. Sel didn't want to learn how to be a lady, but she did, and it's saved her skin in many of the diplomatic situations she's gotten into as a junior queenrider.
Sel has absolutely no motherliness in her at all. If she ever does have a child, then she will name it and then pay no attention to it afterward. When taking care of her sisters and brother, she did her duty, but showed no real affection toward any of them as a mother figure. She doesn't have that little something needed to raise them properly and take care of them for as long as it's needed. It's not determination; she has plenty of that. She doesn't know what she's missing as a mother figure, and doesn't really care.
Selaina is terrible at all romantic relationships, whether it's just simple flirting, something a bit more serious, or a permanent weyrmating relationship. She doesn't know why; she certainly has the looks and the personality to attract several boys. Nothing about her drives them away, and she isn't the one who abandons the relationship. So, she's puzzled by why she can't seem to keep any sort of relationship together, but she can't.
Sel may seem like a beautiful doll, but she really is quite strong for her looks. She learned how to fight, and employs this whenever men make unwanted advances.
Underneath all this is a very high intelligence. Sel's mind, while seething with unbridled emotion, actually can be very cool and calculating when it wants to be. The change that comes over her when her intelligence takes over is extraordinary. Suddenly you are faced with a calm girl who can stand up to the most wily Lord Holder and even exasperate him with her wit.
Sexual Orientation: Straight
History: There are some girls who were just born to be goldriders in every way. There are some that no one thought would Impress anything, much less a queen. And then there are some like Sel, who everyone just wanted to see shunted off to the Weyr, no matter their Impression, so the Hold wouldn't have to deal with them anymore. Sel was one of this last group.
Selaina's parents were two Firerock Holders of high rank. Her father's name was Telrone and her mother's Aransel. They got married out of an arrangement that neither of them had any say in, and loathed each other on sight. When their first child was a daughter, whom they decided to name Selaina, they just loathed each other all the more for not producing a son first. It took three more daughters before Aransel finally gave birth to a son. Aransel was not the strongest of women, and by the time their son Telaran was born, Aransel was a weak, but shrewish sort of woman.
Selaina grew up taking care of all her siblings, but loathing every moment of it. All her sisters felt rejected and unwanted, and Sel didn't help one bit. To Telaran as well as the group of girls, Sel did her duty, since both Telrone and Aransel were off doing their important Hold work. The lot of her younger siblings grew up slightly bitter, and feeling that they were missing something vital. They looked at the other Hold children, some of them of lower rank, but happy with their parents and siblings, and grew to loathe Sel, who didn't care one bit.
Selaina met one boy, who she became friends with, in a strictly casual way. He taught her how to defend herself, a very valuable skill. The relationship turned slightly romantic when they were both around thirteen and a half. It was then that Sel discovered the awful truth that she was no good at relationships. He was heartbroken, but there was nothing to be done about it.
Sel saw dragonriders coming to the Hold and wondered what their life was like. Using her sheer determination, she managed to ask one brownrider about Weyrlife. The man was happy to answer all her questions, mainly because he saw her as a pretty little thing. She was fourteen at the time. He tried to have his way with her. And wasn't he in for a surprise? When he finally managed to limp onto his brown and between back to the Weyr, he had several nasty bruises and cuts, but most of all a very injured pride.
When Aransel learned what her daughter had done to a dragonrider, she finally learned what her children had been doing over the past years. Enough, was enough, Aransel decided. It was time to reform her, and make her into a proper lady, for a good marriage. Sel hated every bit of it, and fought fiercely with her mother. Aransel, in an odd burst of strength, shouted that Selaina was a willful girl who should have been broken long ago, and took away every bit of inheritance the girl might have earned as the firstborn daughter. Telrone was also extremely furious, but when he heard that there was a queen egg just laid on the Firerock Sands, he gave her one chance to redeem herself: Impress the queen, or never consider herself a member of the Hold again.
Luckily for her slightly dubious standing within the Hold, a greenrider came to the Hold, looking for girls for the queen egg. The only girl Greenrider Kyana and her green Ruliath picked was Selaina. All the other girls hated her for it, figuring that she didn't deserve a chance to Impress a queen. Sel shrugged and figured, if she was Searched, she was Searched. She went willingly along with Kyana, not screaming or fluttering like so many other girls when they went between. She was more strong than the lilies of the Hold, said lilies never having learned how to lift a finger to do anything more than call a servant.
The eggs hardened. Some girls from the Northern holds were candidates also. They looked upon her with distrust, even hate, and stayed out of her way in the barracks. When it came time for the Touching, they even tried to block her way to the queen egg. She fought her way through and touched the gleaming egg, which gave off a distinct air of coldness and disinterest. The other girls all seemed to shudder when they touched the egg. All except for Sel.
The eggs were cracking, a day a couple of sevendays after the Touching. The dragons hummed, and Sel could hear their thoughts, their excitement about their new gold, for the egg was in all likelihood a gold. Their excitement and humming increased to an almost deafening level when the queen egg began to crack. Slowly, a gold head emerged, surveying the girls disinterestedly. The wedge head swung slowly to meet each one's gaze. The one it lingered most on was that of Selaina, who stood proudly in her white robe. Finally, the gold seemed to like something in her, for her eyes started whirling more violently, with a new rainbow of colors, and she announced, Selaina, Gold Nalreth has chosen you as Hers. Feed me.[/b]
Weyrling training was kind of a bore, but Nalreth helped somewhat. The gold's "ice queen" personality balanced out Selaina's passion for life. Where Sel was fiery, Nal was disinterested and cool. They had an interesting relationship. During their weyrlinghood, they stayed away from the other weyrlings, who had an odd degree of loathing for them. They grew to become a junior goldpair, and now help with the Weyr management.
After becoming junior weyrwoman officially, Selaina found herself with nothing to do, which was odd. On a coast as near to the Weyr as possible, Sel found a healthy clutch of firelizard eggs. She brought them to the Weyr, but Impressed two of the little dragon kin.
Pets:
Bronze flitter Kalloren[/color]
Kalloren, or Ren as he's called, is a very prideful bronze. He's extremely large for one of his color, and a deep, rich, gleaming shade of bronze. He knows he's masculine and handsome, and takes great pride in these facts.
Silver flitter Mist
Mist is about the size of a brown, but more slender than either her brown or silver peers. She is a very, very pale silver, appearing almost, but not quite, white. She has odd, very tiny markings on her hide, appearing like droplets of silvered water. She's a beautiful firelizard, albeit an extremely grumpy and slightly antisocial one who hates being disturbed. She seems at times to almost prefer Nalreth's company to Selaina's.
Other: High-level HAD if that's okay. A RP sample is in order, I know.
You pronounce her name suh-LAY-nuh, nickname Sel (pronounced SELL)

Dragon Info:
Name: Nalreth
Age: 2
Color: Gold
Appearance: A sizable gold, Nalreth is a rich, shimmering shade of the color. Her metallic gleam is extremely evident on her hide, which has one discoloration (although it's considered a pattern really,) an intricate, almost leaf-patterned "mask" of silver winding around her eyes and down her snout.

Sel woke up, feeling refreshed from her night's sleep. Mist stirred beside her, then gave a grumpy chirp and fluttered over to Nalreth's couch, where she resumed sleeping. Sel wondered what the new day would bring her. Probably more work, but she didn't mind, as long as it wasn't too hard. First, she needed some refreshment. But that involved using the service tunnel, which was really not a good idea.
She called down the service tunnel sharply, "Klah and rolls! And on the double! I'm not in the mood for anything unfit for even a blackrider! I don't want the swill you gave me yesterday." Sel had gotten a suspicious-smelling liquid and stale rolls the last time she'd used the service tunnel, and wasn't in the mood for more. Some decent rolls and klah arrived, and Sel ate quickly. It was going to be a busy day, meeting with some Holders. They were so pigheaded sometimes. Sel sighed.
Good morning, Selaina'Mine. How did you sleep? The gold raised one glistening eyelid, the eye beneath whirling a calm, contented blue-green, and stretched slightly on her couch. She was happy this morning, and as a result she was being motherly.
I guess I slept all right, I don't really know. I hate talking to those holders. They're just so pigheaded and stupid sometimes. Sel was not looking forward to it one bit. She wasn't. Although she'd grown up in a hold, she'd not really come across the diplomatic aspect of the weyr-hold relationship.
When she came down from her weyr to the weyrbowl, she had been steaming about having to talk to those holders, and was in a stark black mood. So she wasn't surprised when a rider approached her, a very stern look upon the older woman's face. "Yes?" she asked brusquely.
