Character Info:
Name: T’van
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Rank: Weyrlingmaster
Appearance: T’van has the broad, burly look of a miner. While he is average height for a rider, at about 5’11’, he is very broad in the shoulders and has well-defined chest and arm muscles. His abs are not as pretty, and he has a bit of bulge in his stomach – riding has made them better, but he can never seem to get rid of the little bit of flab on his tummy.
He is dark-haired, dark-skinned and dark-eyed. While he’s not exactly “handsome” in the sweep-you-off-your-feet kind of way, he’s got a brooding look that some women find attractive. His dark hair is kept relatively short and he is generally clean shaven and has a good complexion – though, at the height of Weyrling Training, he does have a bit of stubble on his face from time to time. He dresses well to gathers and hatchings but otherwise, wears practical and durable clothes since he generally works all day long.
Personality: Somewhere along the way, T’van lost his sense of manners. Gruff and tactless, he is both feared by the Weyrlings and misunderstood by the riders. While he works hard, loves his job and is devoted to the Weyr, he complains a lot and swears that every crop of Weyrlings that comes through is the worst yet. He always ends up whipping them into “decent” shape, but he is quite demanding and expects nothing less than perfection out of his pupils.
Otherwise, he generally keeps to the Barracks except during meal times or if a clutch is on the sands, because he always likes to monitor the dragon’s progress and is quite like a worrisome mother when it comes to the hatching. He is very particular about who Impresses what dragon and believes it’s of the utmost important to choose the right candidates, which is why he also assists with Search riding when he has the time.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (generally)
History:
T’van’s father was a journeyman miner at Crom Hold when T’van was born. His mother was a cook in the hall, and though the relationship between the two had never been serious, they were married when T’van (whose birth name was Tandervan) was born. T’van did not grow up in the Minecrafthall, but rather in Crom Hold as his mother moved there to provide a more stable life for the boy. She didn’t want him around all the Miners all the time, so they stayed close to T’van’s father but T’van never considered himself a Miner Hall “brat.”
Instead, he became a stable hand at the Hold’s stables at a very young age and began to learn to work with animals. The beastcrafters were especially impressed with T’van’s close connections he seemed to form with the animals, especially the runnerbeasts. While he had the look of a Miner, he was quickly apprenticed to the Beasthall and moved to Keroon to start learning more. Since he was apprenticed so young, he hardly has any connections to his parents anymore, though he does return to Crom to see them several times a year. He learned he has a younger sister and a younger brother, but he has never met either of them.
T’van was a diligent apprentice - indeed, devotion seems to be in his very essence – but he never got to be a journeyman. Instead, he was searched when he was thirteen and Impressed at the very first clutch he stood at. None of the Beastcrafters were surprised – T’van’s high levels of empathy was what caused him to be so good at handling the animals in the first place, so it made sense that he was destined to be a rider. While he was sad to leave the Hall, he was more than excited to become a rider.
Since Xrysenth is a black dragon, the pair excelled during Weyrling Training – the flying tactics, threadfall maneuvers, and firestone lessons all seemed to be tailored for them. They were, however, not very close with the rest of their Weyrling class and thus have always felt like outcasts – also, their headstrong and perfectionistic nature was a sore spot for almost everyone in the class (especially the former Weyrleader.)
Still, T’van never shirked his duties or relented and so when he graduated, the Weyrlingmaster saw a prospect in him (and – let’s face it – what Weyrlingmaster wouldn’t want to retire after countless turns of teaching the young?). He recruited T’van and promoted him to assistant weyrlingmaster and wingsecond of the Weyrling Wing. For five turns, T’van remained at this position until the Weyrlingmaster retired. Naturally, T’van was promoted to his position and has been there ever since.
T’van, unfortunately, has never been in love in his 28 turns of life and therefore, is a bit detached and disinterested in females in general. Xrysenth is an amorous dragon (strangely enough), so the pair participates in many flights – but none of them seem to materialize into much. Though T’van claims he doesn’t need anything except Xrysenth, he sometimes regrets waking up alone every morning.

Dragon Info:
Name: Xrysenth
Age: 13 Turns
Color: Black
Appearance: Xrysenth is about the size that Ruth was, meaning to say he is tiny in comparison to the golds and bronzes, and is even small compared to the average Black dragon. Still, he has exceptionally large wings and is jet black, making him rather attractive. He is also lean and long, built for speed and perfect agility – so what he lacks in size, he definitely makes up for with prowess.
Personality: Xrysenth, as stated above, is an amorous dragon. He is a flirt, a good spirit, and is gregarious – essentially, he is everything his rider is not. Though they grate on each other’s nerves from time to time, Xrysenth is also a very hard worker and a perfectionist, so they certainly get things done. He loves teaching and is constantly pressuring T’van to find the right girl and settle down.
